NORTH HIGHLAND INITIATIVE
The North Highlands Initiative was a plan initiated by HRH, The Duke of Rothesay and was launched to promote the produce, tourism and built environment of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross-shire. The Prince's Regeneration Trust is working collaboratively across the region as part of the Built Environment Programme to help find viable new uses for key buildings and to raise partnership funding to bring about their restoration, particularly where there are wider benefits to local communities.
In 2006 The Prince's Regeneration Trust and The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment held an Enquiry by Design (EbD) in Castletown with local stakeholders. The EbD process successfully enables communities and stakeholders to actively participate in the planning process. This was the first time that a full workshop has been held jointly by the two charities and reflects the importance of heritage in the Castletown context.
