This wonderful Grade II* listed mill, which was in continuous textile production for 210 years, has been lying vacant since its closure in 2000 during which time it has suffered considerable deterioration and some serious fire damage. The local community is now deeply worried about its future. The present owner, a local businessman, has been in discussion over several years with a number of developers about largely residential schemes but none has come to fruition.

The Prince's Regeneration Trust has been working with local people to achieve a regeneration scheme for the building, and have established the Torr Vale Mill Trust as a charitable body to undertake this work if a Trust-based solution proves to be the only way forward. There has been extensive local consultation on such a scheme, including a Planning Day, and a feasibility study has been undertaken. The community wishes to see a mixed solution of economic, residential and community uses, with public access to this wonderful site.
