The Magic of Middleport at Night

Come and experience the magic and mystery of Middleport at night….

The Prince’s Regeneration Trust’s work at Middleport goes far beyond the pottery walls. We are committed to Burslem and beyond and are putting on a wide range of events, activities and opportunities that build on a sense of place and local pride.

Middleport Pottery is taking part in the national Museums at Night event.

On Friday 17th May, visitors will be able to experience this magical site at dusk. This is a rare opportunity to visit the site “out of hours”.

Open from 6 to 9pm and completely free there will be a range of fun activities for families to take part in. Local artists including Hazel Higham and Joyce Iwaszko will be sharing their talents and leading night time themed craft activities, including clay owls and pastel plaques.  Local storyteller Alan Barrett will be adding to the atmosphere with spooky stories to make your spine tingle.

It will also be a brilliant opportunity for families to come and meet staff from The Princes Regeneration Trust (PRT). We hope to talk to everyone about the project and find out more about what we could be doing to provide the local community with plenty of fun and engaging activities at Middleport

We acquired the site back in June 2011. We did this in order to ensure the Burleigh, who has been producing traditional British ceramics onsite since 1888, remained in Burslem. We were concerned the site was going to close, leading to a loss of jobs and these beautiful historic buildings may have been abandoned. Burslem and the wider region have suffered as a result of industrial decline and to allow this wonderful site to close would have been another huge blow to the local community.

The buildings that are currently standing empty are being restored and developed into attractive accommodation for British craft and creative enterprises, community space, a gallery and a café. The nationally important heritage of the site will be preserved and opened up, allowing visitors to see the inner workings of the pottery.

We are so proud to have saved and be restoring Middleport Pottery. We want to work alongside people of Burslem and beyond to ensure its restoration and regeneration benefits the local community. It is a beautiful and magical site and we are so excited to be opening it in the evening.
