Industrial Heritage Conference 2015 a great success

International experts from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands were among the speakers at our Industrial Heritage Conference 2015, which PRT co-hosted with the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Historic England.

Celebrating 2015 European Industrial & Technical Heritage Year, the two-day conference, Reviving Places By Reusing Industrial Heritage, explored the challenges and benefits of reusing industrial heritage buildings, such as former warehouses and factoriesIt took place on the 1st and 2nd December in Manchester, the birth place of the Industrial Revolution, and attracted 275 people to the city's Museum of Science & Industry.

The conference offered local authorities, developers, investors and community groups helpful advice from leading figures in the sector and featured keynote speeches from the organisations' three chief executives: Duncan Wilson OBE, of Historic England, the HLF's Carole Souter CBE and Ros Kerslake of PRT.

There were also notable speeches from developer Tom Bloxham MBE, Chairman and Co-Founder of regeneration developer Urban Splash, former Special Adviser to the Prime Minister and co-founder of Second Home, Rohan Silva, and Thom Aussems, Managing Director of Dutch developer Trudo. All of them spoke of how industrial heritage buildings could play a key role in boosting an area's economic growth and driving regeneration. 
Delegates were also moved by the story of community efforts to save Ancoats Dispensary in Manchester and the successful cooperation between developer Igloo Regeneration and local group the Ancoats Dispensary Trust.
