Development Manager Faye reflects on another sunny evening at Highgrove.
The sun shines on the righteous they say - well, it was certainly true on the 28th June, when Friends of The Prince's Regeneration Trust were able to enjoy the exquisite (and sunny!) gardens at Highgrove with our President, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
HRH's knowledgeable voluntary tour guides led 130 of us skilfully around this magical place which is clearly a real labour of love. For those of us who are lucky enough to have been before, it is amazing to know that this seemingly mature landscape is only 30 years old and can change so much year on year. A wet spring/summer has resulted in stunning displays of purple and white in the walled garden, and the wild flower meadow was brimming with life. The garden tour group I joined were fascinated by the stories behind the planting, sculptures, and ‘furniture’ we discovered which so cleverly blends architecture, art and imagination.
Our Friends finished their evening with a well deserved drinks reception where HRH The Prince of Wales was able to thank them in person for the continued support upon which we depend - all of their annual gifts take the form of unrestricted income, which provides an incredible backbone of support enabling us to channel the funds to where the need is greatest.
As the last car pulled away into the Gloucestershire sunset, the small spots of rain began to land once again on my windscreen and with that our summer event was over for another year.
