Workshop and office spaces are part of our ambitious reuse project for Middleport Pottery.
Middleport Pottery is the home of traditional Burleigh pottery, manufactured since 1851. In June 2011 we acquired the site and saved it, ensuring the traditional manufacturing skills, history and heritage of Burslem are not lost forever, and that Burleigh stays in Burslem.
Our intention is that these workshop spaces will be used for the benefit of creative/craft business. The first workshop space was occupied this month by Poole Pottery, part of the Denby group, and a second workshop space will be finished at the end of November, when the Kitchen Dresser Company will be moving into it. Both these companies have been working in the main part of Middleport on a temporary basis, ready to move into their new workshops.
The other spaces are still up for grabs for other businesses. They offer excellent opportunities for new businesses, because:
- the site is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors each year through tours of the pottery, the visitor centre, education centre, factory shop and café.
- the workshops are high-quality flexible spaces, designed to accommodate a range of business activities.
- Middleport Pottery is easily accessible by car, train… and boat!
- the wider Middleport Pottery site is very much a creative cluster that provides the perfect setting for businesses.
