Education
The Prince’s Regeneration Trust supplements its project work with a wide-ranging Education Programme. This Programme is designed to build capacity in key sectors on various aspects of managing historic buildings and heritage-led regeneration projects more effectively. The Education Programme draws substantially from the experience the Trust has gained over the past 13 years on its project work.
The Education Programme is aimed at the following groups of people, with whom the Trust works:
- Local Authorities;
- Local community groups;
- Developers, investors and landowners;
- Building professionals; and
- The construction industry
The Education Programme is structured around three key themes:
- Sustainability: achieving an environment where the embedded energy of listed and historic buildings is valued, and where improvements to the environmental performance of such buildings are made, with due care given to the building’s character.
- Local Authority stewardship: raising awareness amongst Local Authorities of the powers they possess in relation to historic and listed buildings, and encouraging the use of these powers, where appropriate, both for buildings in the ownership of Local Authorities and for those within their wider care.
- Skills: identifying and working to fill skills gaps in the heritage sector, both for traditional building and professional skills.
As part of the Education Programme the Trust offers conferences, seminars and other events drawing on the experience of our staff, partners and specialists in the heritage field.
The Trust is also working on a series of educational publications in the form of guides aimed at a non-specialist audience. The first guide ‘How to: Write Conservation Reports’ was published in November 2009. More information about specific events and publications can be found in the ‘Publications’ and ‘Seminars and Events’ sections of this website.
